Rubber latex is a protective fluid contained in the tissue beneath the bark of the rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis, that orginated from Brazil (hence its botanical name). By 1890, the British had introduced rubber plantations in Malaysia for harvesting latex. The cloudy white liquid,is collected by cutting a a thin strip of bark from the rubber tree and allowing the latex to drip into a collecting bowl over a period of few hours. The British are credited to have introduced the rubber plant in India too.
